Another Migrant Health Scare

I often refer to the fact that The Daily Mail is the paper of choice for the odious BNP and that despite both lovers seeking to distance themselves from each other, there certainly is a symbiotic relationship. Both the mail and the express are currently engaged in a competition to ensure their scary immigrant front pages find their way into BNP literature [(c)A.Vowl] and yesterday Simon Darby linked to Littlejohn's latest piece of crap.

However, today does see the BNP breaking away from the the Associated Newspaper bondage gear. In a story about the NHS - based on a BBC radio programme no less - the Mail is content to publish an article merely having a dig at NHS standards and young medics in general.

Of course, the NHS does not keep records of such cases - presumably due to the difficulty in defining what is a diagnosis. My own mother was given Tamiflu not so long ago and it became clear that she may not have had the dreaded swine flu after all. That is just a non-medical opinion so how could that be verified?

The figures preceding the journalistic trick of using quote marks are based on research from a body called NPSA which,
  • runs a database that records medical errors, patient incidents, mistakes in medical notes and near-misses on a voluntary basis.

Between April 2008 and March 2009 there were 39,500 reports of incidents involving clinical assessment.

Quite how this figure of reported cases adds up to one in six (or about 16%) is unclear. Normally a study would involve using a set number of randomly selected patients and finding a figure from that. Again, how is misdiagnosis quantified? Many legal cases involving NHS negligence claims are settled without any finding or admission of liability (often for financial expediency reasons but there you go).

The story then refers to a 'similar' study in the USA (with its 'similar' health service no doubt) reaching a figure of 15% and other research concluding with 10%. So let's just pick the higher figure eh?

The article then quotes Professor Graham Neale, of the Centre for Patient Safety and Service Quality at Imperial College London, who has been researching misdiagnosis for the past four years and wants to see improvements to medical training.

Again, not clear whether he is anything to do with any of the studies or just a convenient rentaquote. Wanting to see improvements is natural but where's the beef.

I didn't set out to pick apart the Mail article itself but it does raise questions and maybe someone like Ben Goldacre will/has covered this in detail.

Allowing for the issues raised above, I thought something was missing from the tone of the piece.

So, over to our friend at the BNP bunker. They noted the story and also managed to find a way of completing the jigsaw with that funny looking piece that doesn't seem to fit anywhere unless to stretch it and cut off a few edges.

I know the BNP love white and all, so it's worth avoiding, but does black text on a black background really help?

Oh, yeh, cheers. bizarre. it seemed OK at first then reverted to invisible.

Maybe next one will be written in green braille.

eric the fish said...

I can assure you it was published there. Maybe they've removed it. I'm willing to entertain the notion that it could be a wind-up (as we sometimes do with the Mail) but it's down to the BNP to check. after all, it won't let me post owt!

Maybe it was Richard barnbrook (judging by his car crash performance at the GLA standards committee today).

May even post someting about that too but I think I'm a bit busy tonight.

UPDATE.

The comment referred to is still on the second page of comments

I must have scrolled down too quickly and missed it. It's obviously someone taking the piss -- even the name is spelled wrong.

eric the fish said...

Perhaps it's just like Barnbrook claiming crimes that didn't exist and the defence is that this is symbolic of other semi-literate members.

There are genuine ones on the Daily Mail (the BNP paper of choice after Der Sturmer)online site which castigate ZanuLab (now where did that phrase originate?)for failing standards in education and then go on to make elementary grammatical mistakes!

I trust will be enjoying the Black History month events we have planned in the great multi-cultural capital, Liverpool.

Jeannine said...

I have no idea what ZanuLab means. I would guess that Lab is short for Labour, but as to Zanu? Please clue me in.

Also, why are you so obsessed with race?

eric the fish said...

I'm sure you know exactly what the Zanu PF connection is. not too far from RSA.

As to being obsessed with race, this is a bit rich coming from a party whose website has virtually nothing but scare stories about race and 'invaders'.

Moreover, as you well know, local BNP sites are quick to post stories of, for example, negligent doctors who happen to be of a certain colour or ethnic background but able to ignore similar cases which involve good old indigenous medics.

But of course you knew that...

Jeannine said...

I kid you not -- I do not know what Zanu means. I've seen it but just dismissed it as quackery of some sort -- like common purpose or other weird things that people ramble on about. Pray do enlighten me. I guess I can always google it.

Jeannine said...

OK, I've looked it up on Google and got this: Zimbabwe African National Union. What that has to do with Labour or the price of tea in China is a total mystery to me.

Why do you think I would know what it means? Are you really so narrowminded as to presume to tell me what I should know and what I shouldn't? I swear to you that I've only seen it in print on a couple websites and to tell you the truth, it made so little impression on me that until you made the assumption that I should know what it meant, I'd never even given it a second thought. Would you like it if I made up stuff and then insisted that you knew what it meant? Who's broadminded and liberal here? I would have to say me and not you. You, my dear Eric, strike me as a narrowminded bigot. I had thought better of you, but stand corrected.

All the best,

Jeannine

Methinks you do protest too much.

(that's a paraphrasing of Shakespeare for the avoidance of doubt. He was black you know!)

If you've never come across the phrase in BNP circles (and in BNP posts on the Daily Mail).

As you well know this is an attempt by the BNP to portray Labour and/or anti-Fascists as the real Fascists and extremists.

I just assumed that you chanted Arthur's mantra every night and therefore were up to scratch on matters.

I think your final paragraph is just you playing with me. Interesting that we couldn't have this discourse on your mate Simon Darby's site or even the BNP site itself. says a lot for the so-called lack of freedom of speech that the party moans about.

With that freedom comes responsibility. That is why the Brighton bigot gets most of his ant-semtic links (which are nothing to do with the topic in hand)deleted.

Anyway, there's a pie with my name on it and I'm losing at Scrabble. mUst do some work also.

No, William Shakespear was a Caucasian/White english man. This is shown in portraits, and verbal and written descriptions of him.

Answer
As Shakespeare did not come from a noble background no portraits or pictures of him, or any members of his family, were commissioned. Neither is there any evidence that Shakespeare commissioned his own portrait or pictures in his later, prosperous years. There is no evidence that a portrait or pictures were ever painted of him while he was alive, nor is there any written description of his physical appearance.

Therefore, pictures and physical descriptions of him were made up at the makers' discretion. These makers were undoubtedly white. However, only a very extensive research would possibly unveil who the real Shakespeare was as far as physical appearance.

------

However, his background seems to indicate he was caucasian. There is no evidence provided to show anything but an anglo-saxon heritage.

I hope PURPLE AKI chews your nuts you inbred.

eric the fish said...

I knew a moron like you would fail to see the humour in my comment.

Having seen a picure of your good self I doubt if you can have a go at inbreds! If you're the future of the aryan race then you need more than Odin's help.

Anyway, isn't the paraffin oil shop open? I'll explain that one for a small fee.

It's not a case of me protesting so much as it is a case of me being pissed off. Now I know what it means, but I honestly never heard Arthur use it and had relegated it (and still do) to the realm of 'common purpose' crackpots. The only time I read the Daily Mail is for the social gossip stories. I like Simon Darby, but only read his blog every three weeks or so, and I rarely read the comments. I think Intense Debate is rather unwieldy, and is too much bother to wait for it to fully load.

I'm not denying seeing Zanulab, but I never bothered looking it up. Contrary to your opinion, we're not weird loons over here, speaking in acronyms. We're perfectly normal people who have friends from every political spectrum. I know it's easier (for you) to hate people if they fit your preconceived stereotpyes, but we're perfectly mainstream, normal, sociable people who get along with everyone regardless of race, religion or creed and we don't hate anyone (well, maybe one or two specific people).

I'm sick of reading made up tales about me and my 'beliefs'. I told my daughter that I'd been called a racist and she burst out laughing at the ridiculousness of it.
There are things one can fault me for and I'll own up to them -- being a racist or having known what zanu meant are just falsehoods so of course it irritates me.

I'll bet if you had people making up things that you 'knew' or 'believed' you'd be pissed off too. It's a natural response.

I think Eric drinks Opps!!!

eric the fish said...

Drinks? Not as much as our anonymous fool. He visits this site 5 times a day, throughout the night too. I'd be flattered if he wasn't such a fat, pad-wearing fascist.

Moving on to Jeannie baby :

Your daughter needs to ask the following:

1. Why does Mummy belong to a party that has a racist constitution?

2. Why - as Mummy likes to see visit other nations does her friends seem to dislike foreigners?

3. Mummy has a very nice avatar. Could easily be in an Italian avante garde B movie. Why do so many BNP supporters and members choose Waffen SS avatars, Hitler 88 nods and white supremacy winks?

4. Mummy, why should the March of Titans be taught in schools when my friends all say that it has the histororical veracity of Dan Brown writing about Edward II.

FWIW Jeanie I have friends with different views and some who don't give a toss about politics. What I don't have is a list of friends on Facebook of Nazi lovers. You need to question those in the BNP who do.

By virtue of your relationship with the bold Arthur you are not as naive as you make out. You can have a chuckle but it needs to be made clear here.

Therefore, for the sake of your daughter you should tell us what you intend to do about the nazis in the party.

There are people on the left I don't want to be on the same bus as but at least they don't seem to attract the Nazis.

The Daily Mail is the Der Sturmer of England: there is a clear symbiotic relationship between the BNP and the paper of despair. The Express is becoming a threat though.

Perhaps you can explain why we are not able to leave comments on Darby's blog.

ERIC SAID....1. Why does Mummy belong to a party that has a racist constitution?...

I SAY......We all should know the constitution is the same in every country including China, India and Africa, all the continents in fact. Thankfully we are quickly waking up to this fact, its a social engineering scam against white people, which is supported by cranks like Eric! Who has no loyalty to anyone except to the person buying the next round of ale in order to pontificate even more. In other words Africa and Asia will still exist after we in the WEST become a third world slum. In reality Eric and Co are attacking our children with his support for this enrichment madness. No wonder he is the only one who supports nutty Alec McFaddens nutty so call TUC on Merseyside. A small band of cranks who have well and truly had there day and made money in the process.

That's hardly logical. What cranks do on Facebook has nothing to do with me, Ericsh (since you're screwing with my name).

3. Mummy has a very nice avatar. Could easily be in an Italian avante garde B movie.

I'm glad you like my picture. At least I know if I run out of editing jobs I might have a possible career in B movie adverts. :-) That's not bad for a 44 year old mother of six. :-)

As a plus, I also know Italian.

eric the fish said...

I was using an amusing affectionate diminutives as loved by Catullus as I would never screw with you. I was quite aware that your daughter was not a toddler but thought you might be flattered by the patronising bilge.

Au contraire, Facebook Fascists have everything to do with your party. They represent you. Either you distance yourself from named culprits or Griffin's claims are meaningless.

I am truly impressed by the 44 yr old mother of 6 bit. If only I didn't frown so much I too would have photogenic cheekbones.

Six?

Anyway, you've not answered the other Q's.

I also went to Milan but you were able to speak with those indigenous peeps.

Put the avatar into b/w.

As my father would say, 'Six? Don't you have a TV?'

Answer the other questions and keep on taking pics.

You have the opportunity to meet people of all different cultures. Although you are getting on a bit now (plays to audience) there is still time to discover life.

Report back.

I'm just a Living Dead Girl.

Put the avatar into b/w.

High contrast or low?

eric the fish said...

That last comment was from the loon from Brighton who thinks I click on the links he sends me daily.

B/w high contrast a la Fellini (and not Fellaini who scored for Everton tonight)

Anyway, as part of your rehabilitation you still owe me some answers. Then I can give you some more.

Jeannine said...

1. Why does Mummy belong to a party that has a racist constitution?

I belong to the BNP because I think it is the only party that properly addresses unchecked immigration. It also has sound policies. The constitution will be changing within a couple months anyway.

2. Why - as Mummy likes to see visit other nations does her friends seem to dislike foreigners?

All of my friends like foreigners. As a matter of fact, some of my friends are foreigners.

3. Mummy has a very nice avatar. Could easily be in an Italian avante garde B movie. Why do so many BNP supporters and members choose Waffen SS avatars, Hitler 88 nods and white supremacy winks?

We’ve discussed my avatar already, so I’ll answer the second part now. I don’t think many BNP supporters and members have the type of avatars you describe. As I’m sure you’ve worked out, there are people who pretend to be BNP purely for smear purposes. I’m not discounting the fact that we might have our share of genuine nuts, but I’m sure all parties do. It doesn’t mean they’re met with approbation, and when caught out they’re shown the door.

4. Mummy, why should the March of Titans be taught in schools when my friends all say that it has the histororical veracity of Dan Brown writing about Edward II.

No one has said it should be taught in schools or that it’s ‘required’ or any such rubbish -- no one other than Gable and his friends. That doesn’t make it true because they’ve said it.

FWIW Jeanie I have friends with different views and some who don't give a toss about politics. What I don't have is a list of friends on Facebook of Nazi lovers. You need to question those in the BNP who do. There are people on the left I don't want to be on the same bus as but at least they don't seem to attract the Nazis.

First off, as I mentioned before, a lot of what I’ve seen is people trying to smear the BNP. However, there is somewhat of a self-fulfilling cycle at work here. There are unstable individuals who believe what is said about the BNP and are consequently attracted to it thinking the lies are true. They may indeed sign up (anyone can join online -- easy as pie), but when caught out they are expelled. Hopefully the change in constitution will drive out any remaining cranks.

Perhaps you can explain why we are not able to leave comments on Darby's blog.

For that I have no answer. I don’t know what type of comments you’ve tried to leave. BTW, is that a royal we? ;-)
